EXPOSURES captures the moods and experiences of fans and artists, both onstage and off. This time, Kate Giffin hits Halifax Pop Explosion with her Polaroid and 35mm and comes back with some magic.

Halifax Pop Explosion took place from October 19 to the 22. Scattered at different venues across the city, it’s a great excuse for musicians that used to live here to come home for the weekend and an excuse for those of us still living here to pull in musicians that would never otherwise swing through. Although Halifax is a city, it’s one of those places that feel like a small town because everybody knows everybody, so it’s nice to mix up the crowd and see some unfamiliar faces.

I shot 35 mm film and Polaroid at various shows over the four-day festival, and now that it's all been developed it's time to share the highlights. From intimate Polaroid portraits to crowd shots, to shots of soulful psych and soul showstoppers, it's what it feels like to be out there on the east coast, drinking beers and running from shows to shows.

Audrey Ann Boucher of She-Devils sang to an attentive crowd, where one member shouted out "Better than TV!" That definitely goes without saying.
